Children of working mothers from marginalized sections of the community are the Organization’s primary beneficiaries.
These children migrate to Pune along with their families from various States all over India. The youngest children are a few months old whereas, the oldest children with us are nearing 18 years - thus, creating a very diverse population of beneficiaries in TMCP.
Currently, TMCP caters to the needs of children of working mothers through its 16 day care centres at construction sites at various locations in the Pune Municipal Corporation and the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation areas.
These 16 day care centres function for 8 hours everyday, six days a week throughout the year. Due to the migrant nature of these families, the total number of children varies between 800 to 1200 per day through the year.
Children receive a safe and nurturing environment at the daycare centres that are situated close to the labour tenements at the site.
The major focus (about 2/3rd of TMCP’s total work) is on providing Programs with integrated and holistic interventions in Development, Health & Education for promoting age-appropriate development in children between birth to 18 years of age..
Parents of children attending daycare are TMCP’s primary stakeholders.
Members of the labour community (including parents as well as other labourers) are TMCP’s secondary stakeholders.
Awareness and sensitization about the rights of the child and their role in upholding these rights form the major interventions for this group.
Health check ups and awareness regarding issues that can be detrimental to the development of children in the community (eg. domestic violence, alcoholism, de-addiction etc.) are also included in an effort to make the labour community a safe place for children.
Site Authorities are TMCP’s extended stakeholders. They play a very important role in daycare - right from constructing the centre, regular repair and maintenance of all utilities in the centre, provision of safe drinking water, toilets, permitting time from work for lactating mothers to come to the centres and nurse their babies, facilitating attendance of community members for health camps and awareness sessions etc.
