1969
How it all started
The idea of a creche for children of workers on construction sites took birth in the mind of our Founder, Meera Mahadevan, when she saw a baby lying unattended at a site in the harsh heat of Delhi! Alongwith a team of like-minded friends, Meera Mahadevan then took the idea further by approaching the developer of the site and setting up the first daycare centre at a construction site in Delhi in the year 1969.
What began as Meera’s ardent desire to ensure that the children on construction sites have a happy, safe and nurtured childhood (especially the girl child, who would be burdened with domestic chores and the responsibility to look after younger siblings), has now grown into a strong movement called the ‘Mobile Creches’ in India. It was termed ‘mobile’ as it catered to the needs of the construction worker who constituted a migrant population. The creches were often moved from site to site, and sometimes at different locations within the same site.

Mobile Creches in Delhi started a branch in Mumbai
1980
Mobile Creches was started in Pune as a subsidiary of the Mumbai Branch
2007
It was in March 2007, that for better organisational abilities, Mobile Creches in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune became independent organizations.
Mobile Creches were pioneers in child day care programs - “The Pathfinder”. Thus Tara Mobile Creches was an appropriate name for the new entity in Pune.
Mobile Creches in Pune was registered as Tara Mobile Creches Pune u/s 25 of the Companies Act of 1956.
Tara Mobile Creches, Pune started out on a table in a garage at a construction site and has grown today to running daycare centres at prestigious construction sites in and around Pune
Over the years, TMCP has continued to enrich childhoods and shape the futures of over 50,000 children
of working mothers
from marginalized sections of society, primarily at construction sites.
